The library of STIE Perbanas Surabaya has implemented community service programs for many times in the school environment. This time, students of SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Surabaya (SMAMDA) had the opportunity to receive material on Literacy Skills for Millennials on Thursday, March 12, 2020. Located in the local prayer room, this literacy event was attended by dozens of students from class XI.

Librarian STIE Perbanas Surabaya, Dyana Purwandini, S.IP., said that literacy is very important to understand in order that students can absorb information carefully and precisely. In fact, they can improve Life Skills. So far, sources of literacy are developing very fast, for example digital literacy. "Students who have smartphones can certainly get a variety of literacy. This smartphone is an example of technological sophistication that supports digital literacy," he explained.

He continued, there are some basic literacy that can improve student life skills. The basic literacy includes: literacy literacy, numeracy literacy, scientific literacy, financial literacy, digital literacy, and cultural and civic literacy. "For example, in financial literacy, you must know the value of the currency used for transactions. If you do not understand, you may be cheated later. So, financial literacy is related to finance," he added..

Before ending the literacy material, students of SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Surabaya were invited to take part in a Digital Wall Magazine Competition. The competition, which is held by the STIE Perbanas Surabaya Library, can be participated by high school students in Surabaya. "Usually wall magazine is posted on the bulletin board. Digital wall magazine can be in the form of a website or blog with a simple appearance. The event is a form of digital literacy," he concluded.

The Librarian Coordinator of SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Surabaya, Darwis Okta said that literacy is very beneficial for students. According to him, the times that started from computers, cellphones, to smartphones require different literacy. "So, if there is an opportunity, the literacy understanding can be deepened further," he said. (eko/humas)
