Improving Banking Literacy, Perbanas Library Invites Elementary School Students to Become Tellers and Customers
Elementary school (SD) students' interest in new things appears when they practice role playing the banking profession. A number of elementary school students in Surabaya are active in the roles of being a customer, teller, customer service, to the security of a bank in Indonesia. These students also share roles, taking turns to find out about their respective duties in the banking world.
Right on Saturday, December 14 2019, this 3rd grade student of SD Negeri Nginden Jangkungan Surabaya was just getting to know the routine of the banking profession. They were given lessons about the values of the previous rupiah currency until they were taught to save at the bank. In fact, they play role plays or simulations as if they are bank employees.
One of the local elementary school students, Meylani Putri Indayati, said she was happy after becoming a teller. "Yes, I am happy, I was a teller," the impression of this 3A grade student. Then, when asked about her aspirations, this little girl wearing a hijab wanted to work as a teller. "Yes, I want," he said softly on Saturday, December 14, 2019.
It should be noted, the activity which took place at SD Negeri Nginden Jangkungan Surabaya is a form of education from the Community Service Program of the Bank Indonesia (BI) Library Corner STIE Perbanas Surabaya.
The Head of the STIE Perbanas Surabaya Library, Munawaroh, S.S., M.Sc., said this activity aims to improve students' Banking Literacy from an early age. Later, they will form a culture of saving so that this behavior is good to be instilled as character education. "Therefore, we are collaborating with this elementary school in order to increase student banking literacy," said Munawaroh.
He added that this activity was also carried out as a form of gratitude because the Library of STIE Perbanas Surabaya won the 2019 BI Corner Award (BI Corner Award) as the 2nd Winner of the National Higher Education Category. In addition to the banking profession simulation, hundreds of students who attended also participated in a coloring contest with the theme BI Corner Library Building, STIE Perbanas Surabaya.
