UHW Perbanas Lecturers Provide Assistance to Advance Surabaya’s MSMEs

Universitas Hayam Wuruk (UHW) Perbanas, in collaboration with the Muhammadiyah Branch Leadership (PCM) of Rungkut District, Surabaya, is strengthening the capacity of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). This initiative, carried out through a community service program, offers various forms of assistance focused on improving business legality and optimizing the use of e-commerce platforms.

The head of the UHW Perbanas community service lecturer team, Yudha Herlambang Cahya Pratama, S.Kom., M.Kom., explained that the collaboration with PCM Rungkut was established because the organization has an Economic and Entrepreneurship Council (Majelis Ekonomi dan Kewirausahaan or Majeko). Within this council, there are several business units supporting MSMEs.

“There are at least 20 MSMEs under their guidance. Majeko manages a container that is filled with products from these MSMEs and sells them in front of the PCM Rungkut office,” said Yudha when contacted on Tuesday afternoon (Sept 2).

Considering the limited facilities, Yudha and his team took the initiative to provide an additional container and cooking equipment. “Previously, they only had one container, which was not enough to accommodate all the products. We added another container so that more products could be sold, thus increasing their income. Now they have two outlets for selling,” he explained.

The MSME assistance program consists of two main activities: helping businesses obtain permits and improving marketing. “Many of these MSMEs did not yet have legal business status, so we helped them obtain it. Then we continued with marketing assistance. In addition to selling at the Majeko container, MSMEs were also supported in creating e-commerce accounts such as GoFood, GrabFood, and ShopeeFood. The hope is that, besides relying on Majeko, MSME owners can also sell their products independently,” he added.

This MSME assistance program is supported by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemendiktistek) in 2025. The team members involved include: Yudha Herlambang Cahya Pratama, S.Kom., M.Kom. (Head), Herwin Ardiyanto, S.Pd., M.M., and Mohammad Al Hafidz, S.Kom., M.Kom. This effort is expected to accelerate the digitalization of MSMEs and open wider market opportunities in the digital transformation era.

Meanwhile, one of the MSME owners, Upik, expressed her appreciation for the valuable materials provided during the program. “As business actors, we also need to understand that entrepreneurship requires knowledge of NIB (Business Identification Number), e-commerce accounts, and social media accounts,” she said.

A similar sentiment was shared by Ahmad Dhani, who expressed his gratitude for the program. According to him, the assistance provided has been very helpful in preparing MSMEs to face competition.

“Many of us did not yet have legal business status, even though it is essential for business sustainability. In addition, creating e-commerce accounts has been very beneficial as it helps our products reach more consumers,” he concluded. (eko/pr)
