In recent times, numerous reports in the media have highlighted bullying cases in schools, drawing special attention from stakeholders. Consistent efforts are crucial to minimize such cases. Among the most common types of bullying are verbal (79%), social (50%), physical (29%), and cyberbullying (25%).

Addressing this issue, Hayam Wuruk Perbanas University organized a workshop titled Stop Bullying and Start Loving on Tuesday, December 17. Held at the 10th-floor Auditorium of the Wonorejo Campus, the event saw the enthusiastic participation of more than 70 high school (SMA/SMK/MA) counseling teachers. These educators recognized the critical importance of preventing bullying in schools and their surrounding communities.

Dr. Yudi Sutarso, S.E., M.Si., Rector of UHW Perbanas, emphasized that this event was part of the institution’s 55th-anniversary celebrations (Lustrum XI). He noted that addressing bullying aligns with the broader educational mission of schools and universities to mitigate and ultimately eliminate bullying.

“From the outset, we instill anti-violence, anti-corruption, anti-drug, and anti-bullying values in our students by providing character education and soft skills training, including ethics, during their early college years,” he explained during the event.

The first speaker, Lutfi Arya, M.Psi., highlighted the importance of equipping children with the ability to counteract bullying.
“Bullying is like a ghost. Imagine if children possess the skills to effectively combat bullying. We would then have a generation of resilient students who are better equipped to handle challenges,” explained the Vice Chair of the Indonesian Psychology Association in East Java.

Inayah Sri Wardhani added that tackling bullying requires collaboration among all parties. She urged everyone to serve as role models, support children, and foster an environment rooted in education and compassion.

She expressed hope that this workshop would serve as an inspiring step and a call to action for all layers of society to unite.
“With collective awareness and shared concern, schools and other educational environments can become safe, positive, and violence-free spaces for the nation's future generations,” she concluded. (eko/pr)
