Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Kalanganyar Village, Sidoarjo Regency have gained an opportunity to enhance their production capacity and sales through a community service program by Universitas Hayam Wuruk Perbanas. Supported by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemendiktisaintek), this initiative includes training and direct mentoring in business management, particularly in product development and digital marketing.
UHW Perbanas lecturer, Miftahul Adi Suminto, stated that a digital touch was added to the product packaging by embedding a barcode scan that provides product information for UMKM Bandeng Radit through an e-catalog. According to him, packaging innovation is one of the positive steps in marketing.
“There is technological integration within it through the barcode scan, which will lead to a product profile or digital catalog using Figma-based design. Then, it is integrated across three packaging types: primary, secondary, and tertiary,” explained Miftahul Adi when contacted on Tuesday (11/11).
Furthermore, Adi detailed the three types of packaging created based on their marketing functions. “We improved the packaging starting with the primary packaging used for frozen products. The second is the secondary packaging, in the form of cardboard boxes for direct sales. The third is the tertiary packaging, a plastic bag used to carry the secondary packaging,” he elaborated. It is worth noting that UMKM Bandeng Radit is a fish-based food producer that initially had only one type of packaging for its three flagship products: bandeng presto (pressure-cooked milkfish), roasted milkfish, and milkfish otak-otak.
Ultimately, the mentoring provided by UHW Perbanas lecturers has had a positive impact by producing more appealing and adaptive packaging. It is hoped that product sales will continue to increase, supported by strong digital marketing efforts. (eko/pr)
